New Resource Centre For Older People Opens

The first resource centre in West Dunbartonshire for older people with mental health needs has been opened thanks to funding of £200,000 from NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

Cairnmhor Resource Centre is in a refurbished area of Dumbarton Joint Hospital and has been developed as a base for a community mental health team.

John Russell, West Dunbartonshire Community Health Partnership’s Head of Mental Health, said: "This exciting development forms a community mental health team for older people in the Dumbarton, Alexandria and Helensburgh area, including those with dementia."


Cairnmhor offers a multi-disciplinary memory clinic and out-patient clinics and will also involve service users and carers in the delivery of services by setting up a range of groups and activities.

Bill Clark, Executive Director of West Dunbartonshire Council's Social Work Services, said: "The opening of this facility is a major step forward in providing excellent care for our elderly residents suffering from a range of mental health issues. Services that improve the lives of our elderly people are a step in the right direction and it is important we continue to provide the support and treatment our elderly residents rightly deserve."
