Lovell Hails School's Top Green Award

Pupils at Sandwood Primary School, Glasgow, have flagged up their commitment to the environment by achieving the Eco-Schools Green Flag - the highest award presented through the Eco-Schools programme.

It recognises the hard work by pupils at the school cutting waste, recycling materials, improving the local environment and living healthily.

Lovell, which is carrying out a major refurbishment programme locally to blocks of flats in Hillington for Glasgow Housing Association, congratulated them by presenting the school with a flagpole from which to fly the Green Flag.


Principal Teacher Julie Scott said: "It's fabulous to have gained the Green Flag award. The Green Flag gave us something to aim for and the children have absolutely loved it with each class taking responsibility for a different part of the programme. Being able to fly the flag is fantastic and we're really grateful to Lovell for helping out by presenting us with the flagpole."

Pupils at the school have carried out a wide range of environmentally-friendly activities including planting bulbs and vegetables, litter-picking in the school grounds and in the community, recycling materials, saving energy by switching off computers and lights. The school has also linked up with nearby Howford School to carry out joint environmental initiatives.
