A massive clean-up squad made up of local residents and staff from social housing and refurbishment specialists, Connaught, has rid the litter from communities in Priesthill.
Over thirty adults and children armed with rubber gloves, bin bags, cleaning solution, masks and goggles supplied by Clean Glasgow hit the streets in the Muirshiel area of Priesthill on Sunday 15th November to reclaim the space from the blight of litter.
Volunteers from Connaught joined local residents of Priesthill with representatives from Glasgow Community and Safety Services, Sanctuary Housing, Strathclyde Police Pollok Community Officers, Priesthill Youth Club and Orlit Tenants Group to tackle the unsightly and unhygienic rubbish which continues to be dumped illegally in the area.
Connaught is currently working across Greater Pollok in partnership with GHA as part of the city’s capital investment programme, carrying out external fabric and roofing works.
Laura Allison, Connaught tenant liaison officer, said: "When we heard about the initiative, we were delighted to get involved. Connaught is committed to contributing towards a healthy, safe community environment in all of the areas where we work so if it means we can get involved, we’re more than happy to muck in."
Donna Foote from Priesthill and organiser of the clean up said: "We live in a very environmentally rich area where many birds and wild life settle next to our burns and woodlands so it’s essential we do our best to keep this area clean and free from litter.
"We're delighted so many made it along to help us with the clean up and the young people in Priesthill intend to keep up the good work afterwards by participating in a garden Clean Up Scheme. This will be offered to all neighbours for a minimum donation which will help the young people go on trips and buy much needed equipment for the youth club."
