Kirk Stone Adds Class To Malmaison

Construction News Image
A Scottish firm that specialises in the use of natural stone work in construction projects has been celebrating success.

Kirk Natural Stone Developments were "very pleased" to be involved with both the internal and external work which was carried out on the new Malmaison Hotel, Aberdeen.

Helen Kirk of Kirk Natural Stone Developments said: "This work involved both supplying and fixing slate internal flooring and external granite paving, walling, kerbing and granite seating," noting that it also involved natural stone flooring.

"The natural black slate flagstones were supplied and laid in the reception area, upstairs corridors and downstairs stairwell of the Malmaison," she explained.

"The majestic grey-black flooring with an undulating traditional flagstone surface, creates a timeless ambiance with classic character through the hotel," she enthused.

On external landscaping, Kirk Natural Stone Developments also supplied and laid fine picked finish grey granite cassies and flame textured grey, dark grey and pink granite flagstones.

"The front of the hotel has a forecourt which is primarily hard landscaped with vehicular and pedestrian areas.

"It was important to delineate visually between he two areas," the spokeswoman said.

"The intention was that the paving - in a different size of module from cobbles - coupled with the variety of colour (especially the pink) would give good visual clarity between the two areas.

"This distinction was not to be hazy which might have been the case if both areas had similar colour mixes.

"It was therefore important that one area had the pink stone in it and not the other," she said.

The granite seating area with benches and planters in the walled area also had design input from Kirk Natural Stone Developments in order to take into account the lighting arrangements.

"The use of natural stone both internally an externally was fitting with the prestige, quality and sophistication which is associated with the Malmaison name," she concluded.

Kirk Natural Stone has a showroom and landscaping displays at their showrooms in Turriff.
