Rowantree Primary Officially Opened

Dundee City Council education convener Cllr Liz Fordyce has officially opened Rowantree Primary School.

The new school is part of Dundee City Council's £90 million PPP programme, which has delivered a total of six new primaries and two secondaries.

Cllr Fordyce said: "This is a very special day for the pupils and their families, staff and everyone connected with Rowantree Primary.

"It is a great honour to officially open this new school.

"This is the start of a very exciting future for Rowantree and its community."

The opening ceremony saw pupils perform Scottish poetry and dancing and celebrate their new school in song.

At the two-stream Rowantree, there are 14 classrooms, a nursery, associated resource rooms, a music/drama studio, assembly hall and gym, as well as a range of community facilities and an outside all-weather pitch.

Artwork depicting a 'Tree of Learning', which pupils helped to created, is located at the entrance of the school. A rowan tree will also be planted in the school grounds.

Rowantree is situated beside St Vincent's, and the two primaries have already come together for events and have more planned in the future.

Dundee City Council's £90 million PPP project has delivered eight new schools in the recently-finished construction programme.

Claypotts Castle, Downfield, St Andrew's, Craigowl and Fintry primaries have opened for pupils, along with St Paul's Academy and the completed replacement for Grove Academy.
