Funding Boost At Swimming Pools

Two South Ayrshire Council swimming pools are set to benefit from an £80,000 upgrade over the festive period so they can start the new year in style.

The Council is investing the monies to upgrade filtration and ancillary plant at Prestwick and Maybole swimming pools, which will close for slightly longer than usual during December and January to allow the necessary works to take place.

Most South Ayrshire Council leisure facilities traditionally close from Christmas Eve until 2 January each year during this quiet period, which provides the ideal opportunity for maintenance works to be completed.

Councillor Margaret Toner, South Ayrshire Council's Portfolio Holder for Leisure, said: "Pools like Maybole and Prestwick are important community assets and these upgrade works are just one example of our commitment to providing quality and affordable leisure services throughout South Ayrshire.

"The festive period is traditionally a very quiet time for leisure facilities within South Ayrshire, so for a number of years now we have closed most of our facilities during this time. And this provides the ideal opportunity to complete the upgrade works at Prestwick and Maybole at the same time."

Between 7-23 December, alternative facilities for those using Prestwick swimming pool will be available at the Citadel, Troon and Maybole swimming pools.

During the Maybole closure, alternative facilities will be available in Troon, Prestwick and at the Citadel in Ayr.
