Plans Agreed For Four New Bannockburn Flats

One of Bannockburn's historic buildings is being brought back in to use following the green light from Stirling Council's Planning Panel.

The Panel has granted planning permission to Stirling Council’s Housing Service to transform the former Women's Refuge building at 4 The Path, Bannockburn into four Council flats.

Planning Panel Chair Councillor Alasdair MacPherson said: "The Panel is delighted to see this disused building coming back in to residential use for what is much needed social rented accommodation in Bannockburn. The building has historical significance for the heritage of the village, and restoring the house to its former state within this conservation area will be welcomed by the community."

The detached two-story building is within the Conservation Area on The Path to the west of Main Street and Old Town Brae in Bannockburn and has been vacant for a number of years. To transform the building in to flats will require extensive refurbishment. The proposals include three two bedroom flats and one one bedroom flat.

Externally repairs to the walls and roof will be needed and all materials used will be sympathetic to the building to preserve the character of the Conservation Area. The existing windows are to be retained and upgraded to keep the single glazing and the slide sash function.

Planning Officers have been instructed that off street parking has to be provided before the homes can be occupied. Hillpark & Milton Community Council supports the application but had concerns over parking and the bridge accessing the area, which has a weight restriction on it and is not suitable for heavy traffic.
