Council Delivers £9m Housing Investment

Over £9m was invested in housing improvements in Angus last year, the council has revealed.

The members of the council's Neighbourhood Services Committee were advised that a number of heating projects for the Arbroath and Carnoustie areas have been brought forward into the current financial year.

The projects account for a £100,000 of accelerated finding whilst guttering and repainting will continue into 2010/11.

Committee convener councillor Jim Millar said: "We keep a very close eye on our expenditure and are fortunate to have the ability to bring forward and hold back projects in a controlled manner whilst still delivering positive outcomes for our tenants."

He added: "Owing to swift management and project control, the council has been able to deliver programmes flexibly. These include the Mayfield/Cliffburn works to demolish flats above the shops; accelerated spending on the kitchen replacement programme and ensuring the best possible quality and value for money on the window replacement programme – again in the Cliffburn area – in 2010/11.

"This tradition of good management is one which stretches back and which we are proud to continue. Our success is reflected in the fact that 89% of our council houses and flats are current meeting or exceeding the Scottish Housing Quality Standard and we have both project and investment plans to meet or exceed the SHQS on or before the target date of 2015."
