Acting on behalf of West Coast Estates, Knight Frank’s building consultancy team has completed the refurbishment and extension of retail units at Middleton Park in Bridge of Don, Aberdeen.
The project, worth £220,000, involved the refurbishment of six retail units to enhance the facade, lighting, paving and public amenities of the units and retail park. In addition, a new 770 sq ft unit was designed and constructed on ground adjacent to the present units.
To comply with the client’s brief to reduce any environmental impact, Knight Frank completed the project design using low maintenance design principles incorporating low energy lighting, sustainable materials, solar powered compaction litter bins to reduce collections, lightweight steel roof tiles and cladding capable of being recycled in the future.
The project also involved liaising with the local authority to remove known loitering areas to improve security to the surrounding access paths.
Knight Frank provided architectural, project management, cost control and CDM-C services from design conception to completion.
Roddy Morrison, of Knight Frank, commented: “The landlord is keen to promote community shopping centres like Middleton by enhancing facilities to make them safer and more attractive to the public.
“They believe that refurbishment doesn’t have to be at the expense of the environment. Using sustainable materials, reducing energy demand and adopting low maintenance principles has helped to maintain the property’s appearance while reducing running costs to secure the future of the retail park for many years to come.”
Occupiers at Middleton Park include The Ashvale, Dominos Pizza, Premier Dry Cleaning, Blockbuster, Low & Co Hairdressers, Ardene Veterinary Practice and Baguette Express.
