Arnotdale House Set For Upgrade

Construction News Image
Falkirk's historic Arnotdale House in Dollar Park is set for upgrade a meeting of the Policy and Resources Committee heard on Tuesday.

As part of Falkirk Council's ongoing improvement programme for business locations (Economic Development Support Fund), the committee agreed a two phase approach to the redevelopment of the listed building, starting with spend of £272k this year.

In the first phase, the fabric of the building will be repaired and upgraded including work on the roof, windows and drainage. The Council then intends to market the premises to determine future occupiers, potentially offices and has flagged a possible phase two, at a cost of up to £400k.

Cllr Craig Martin, Convener of Policy and Resources said: "Arnotdale is a great building in a fantastic setting and by investing improvements now, we certainly are hopeful that the right tenant can be found for it in the future.

"Sustaining our local economy is one of our top priorities. As the area emerges from recession we have to be able to seize opportunities. Our new update of the My Future's in Falkirk strategy aims to retain existing business, attract new business and help boost the economy of the entire area. Projects such as this at Arnotdale typify our approach.

"We have plans to address our other business properties however competing budget pressures means that these can only be addressed in the coming years."

The Committee also agreed to allocate £60,000 for site clearance in Central Business Park in Larbert.
