East Renfrewshire Council is installing new fencing and signage and is taking the step to close a ‘right of way’.
The quarries have had restricted access since over 27 years.
But after specialist inspections of the ground conditions and with some residents continuing to break through fencing and use the ground, new fencing and signage is being installed.
The council is also writing to over 200 residents in and around the area to let them know and to encourage them to keep out of the quarries.

A council spokesman explained: “We’ve recently received updated information and advice regarding the ground conditions at Braidbar Quarries by our specialist consultants. It is now necessary to close a number of areas at the site to public access with immediate effect. This will include the temporary closure of the existing right of way through the site.
“Our contractors are on site erecting additional fencing, and signs to warn of the danger of ground collapse. Our regular inspection regime at the site will continue, and we will update residents on progress should the current situation change.
“We will regularly monitor the site and will take legal action against anyone who damages either the fencing or the warning signs, which have been erected for everyone’s protection.
“We’re urging residents to work with us respect the new fencing, keep off this ground and encourage your family, friends and neighbours to do the same. The council wouldn’t take this action and in particular closing a right of way if we didn’t believe it was absolutely necessary.”
