University Estate Strategy Progresses

Edinburgh Napier University is in the latest phase of its £100m estate strategy which will help achieve its goal of becoming the best modern university in Scotland and one of the finest in the UK.

Following the success of the 2004 redeveloped Craiglockhart Campus - home to the Business School - the University is now setting its sights on Sighthill Campus.

The campus is to become home to the Faculty of Health, Life & Social Sciences as well as some professional service departments and will provide a sustainable state-of-the-art building with premier teaching and learning facilities.

This investment is not just in the future of the University but will also add to the regeneration of Sighthill. The construction programme alone will support in the region of 100 full-time jobs. Some 5,000 students plus staff will be based there, bringing with them a beneficial economic effect to the surrounding area.

In February 2008 the University submitted a detailed planning application to the City of Edinburgh Council. In developing its plans the University has worked closely with the local community, Stevenson College, NHS Lothian, students and staff. The project is currently on programme to achieve practical completion in the autumn of 2010 with access for students in 2011.

A series of public consultations also took place in December 2007 to allow local residents and neighbours to view our plans and ask any questions they may have. Attendees were keen to learn about our intentions, and no objections were raised.
