The boards explain the history of this significant A listed building, tell visitors about the repair works, and highlight how the principles guiding the work at Pittencrieff House apply to any traditional building. And visitors will soon be able to glimpse some of the repair works up close – with a stonemason working in an area at the front of the house.
The boards have been produced by Fife Council’s Heritage and Art team and funded by Dunfermline CARS, to encourage passers-by to take an interest in the work and to help people understand the different approach needed to repair historic buildings.

CARS is being delivered over five years and funding will be used in four key areas, to:
* Provide grants to renovate historic buildings
* Provide grants to businesses to improve their shop fronts
* Carry out improvements to wynds and closes
* Provide information and training for the repair and care of traditional buildings
Emmie Jordan, Pittencrieff House Museum Supervisor said: “Since the boards went up, we have seen crowds of visitors stopping to read them. The Museum is still open throughout the works – most people read the panels and then come inside to ask more about it. Everyone is taking a real interest in the work that the squad are doing.”
The Scottish Lime Centre Trust in nearby Charlestown also helped produce the boards. Roz Artis Young, Technical Director said: “We are proud to be delivering training, mentoring and technical assistance for the reinstatement of traditional external lime finishes at Pittencrieff House, so that this important building will once again become the jewel in the crown of The Glen.
"With a higher number of listed buildings than any other Scottish local authority, Fife Council Building Services are now building up an impressive bank of conservation, repair and maintenance skills in house to care for historic buildings owned by the council.”
