Two young employees of leading Aberdeen-based oil and gas engineering services company Cammach Group have scooped awards.
During a recent awards ceremony in the city, Ben Thomson was crowned best first year refrigeration apprentice at Tullos Training Centre, a leading provider for apprentice training programmes for nationally agreed standards in a range of occupations in the refrigeration, heating and ventilation industries.
Zimbabwe-born Robert Hughes was named as best third year refrigeration apprentice, continuing a successful run of award wins for Robert and the company. Last year saw Robert win the award for the Centre’s best refrigeration apprentice before he went on to be named winner of the Scottish Refrigeration & Air Conditioning (RAC) Apprentice of the Year 2009 at the HVACR industry awards for outstanding achievement in Glasgow.
In 2009, he was also named as the winner of a silver award in the UK-wide RAC National Student of the Year competition in Birmingham and he is a finalist in the Rising Star category of the 2010 Northern Star Business Awards.
Ben Thomson had previously completed an HNC in Engineering CAD and is enjoying the more hand-on approach to engineering that he is experiencing on his current course. Commenting on his win, Ben said: “I am really pleased to have won the ‘best first year apprentice’ award. This year has been a steep learning curve for me but I have enjoyed the challenge. I’m looking forward to getting stuck into year two now.”
Robert Hughes said: “Winning the ‘best third year apprentice’ award was the icing on the cake for me. What better way to complete my apprenticeship. It’s a great way to have your efforts recognised.”
Cammach Group managing director Bill Barclay added: “We are very proud of what Ben and Robert have achieved and we are delighted to support them as they progress in their careers.”
