Dundee Development Consultation Underway

The first steps towards a new plan that will outline future development in Dundee are being taken.

An initial consultation exercise on the local development plan for the city started on Monday (August 16).

The seven week exercise will make people aware that the Dundee Local Development Plan is being prepared, identify individuals and groups that want to be involved in it or kept informed; seek initial views on any major issues that need to be addressed by the plan, or the direction it should take; and pick out potential development sites across the city.

Convener of Dundee City Council's city development committee Will Dawson said: "The consultation provides a great opportunity for the people of the city to get on board at ground level by helping to make sure that as many relevant land use planning issues and as much information as possible are identified.

"With the potential to affect the lives of everyone who lives in, works in or visits Dundee, the earlier people engage in the preparation of the plan the better, so I would encourage anyone with an interest in the future of their city to come forward with comments."

The new local development plan will replace the current Dundee Local Plan Review, which was adopted in 2005.

Setting out the strategy that will guide future development of the city for five years, the plan will also provide broad indications of growth for up to ten years. It will also contain policies and proposals covering the principal land use issues in the city.

Anyone wishing to take part in the initial consultation should visit the council website and click on the consultation button or send comments to Development Plan Team, Dundee City Council, City Development Department, Tayside House, Crichton Street, Dundee, DD1 3RB.
