Council To Build New Homes In Arbroath, Carnoustie And Monifieth

Angus Council is set to begin building ten houses in Carnoustie and two in Monifieth and also plans to construct 11 houses at Harry Farmer Court, Arbroath.

The council’s Neighbourhood Services Committee (7 October) approved acceptance of the lowest tender of £1,274,922 from WH Brown Construction (Dundee) Ltd to build two three-bedroom and eight four-bedroom houses on two sites in Carnoustie and to construct two three-bedroomed houses at Laird Street, Monifieth.

The Carnoustie housing project will receive a £250,000 grant from the Scottish Government.

Planning approval for the two houses in Dundee Street, Carnoustie and two at Laird Street, Monifieth has already been granted, and an application for the eight homes at Links Avenue, Carnoustie will go before the council’s development standards committee on 19 October. Building work is anticipated to begin in November.

The committee also approved the project to build – at a cost of £1,750,000 – eight four-bedroomed houses, two three-bedroomed houses and one two-bedroomed house on the original site of the demolished Harry Farmer Court sheltered housing complex.

Angus Council’s housing spokesperson councillor Jim Millar said: “I am delighted that we are about to begin building affordable homes in these three burghs. We are well aware of the need for housing in Angus, and these homes will be constructed to high quality standards, with low operating costs and carbon emissions.”
