Veterans who served in the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders have now taken up residence in eight newly built bungalows courtesy of the charity Erskine in Renfrewshire.
The ex-servicemen, George Collins and Charlie Haggerty, moved into two semi-detached bungalows built on behalf of the charity by Mactaggart & Mickel Contracts.
Handing over the keys along with Gary Gray, deputy chief executive at Erskine, Paddy Malone, contracts manager for Mactaggart & Mickel Contracts, said; “Mactaggart & Mickel Contracts couldn’t be prouder in delivering high quality housing to such a deserving initiative.
“This is the second phase of development, further to our completion of eight bungalows earlier this year. We now have a further phase of ten veterans’ homes to look forward to building.
“The process has been a real collaborative effort and we carefully considered the design of the new bungalows to ensure they cater for ex-service personnel for many years to come.”
This latest series of move ins signifies the end of phase two of the Erskine development two weeks ahead of schedule.
Gary Gray added: “We are delighted to welcome the two veterans and their families to their new homes, marking the completion of phase two of our rebuild programme.
“I am sure that this will make life considerably easier for those ex-service men and women to whom we are indebted and we now look ahead to the start of phase three.
“At Erskine we always strive to ensure the highest standard of care is delivered to our veterans and Mactaggart & Mickel Contracts has lived up to our high standards with the quality of the build. The working relationship we have with them has been fantastic and they have built these homes with the specific needs of our residents in mind.”
Founded in 1916, Erskine provides nursing and medical care for former members of the British Armed Forces, re-building lives, offering support and providing first class care to ex-service men and women of all ages.
Phase two of the Erskine development again benefited from Mactaggart & Mickel Contracts’ cost effective and time-saving ‘one-stop-shop’ approach to house-building. With each home constructed using the company’s acclaimed ‘closed panel’ timber system, the Erskine project benefits from a sustainable building process that drives down both construction costs and on-site build time.
The Timber Systems ‘Combi-Wall’ closed panel design ensures that every home, constructed to the highest standards of craftsmanship, is wind and watertight within 24 hours of being erected. Workmanship is quickly and professionally undertaken in a quality controlled environment where improved U value and air tightness targets can easily be achieved.
