The Social Housing and Regeneration Team of leading national law firm, HBJ Gateley Wareing, will be hosting its next quarterly seminar on Thursday 17th February, dealing with the topical issue of the regeneration, refurbishment and repair of mixed tenure housing stock.
Almost all Registered Social Landlords have mixed tenure properties within their existing stock and these properties bring with them particular issues in terms of the maintenance and repair of the properties as well as how to manage these going forward including potential improvement and refurbishment.
The discussions will focus on the refurbishment and on-going maintenance and repair of 2 estates in Edinburgh as case studies. The speakers will cover the experience of the RSL and the importance of engaging with owner occupiers as well as looking at the legal tools that are available. The experiences and lessons learned can be applied to most mixed tenure situations from a repair involving a single block to large scale future maintenance programmes.
Speakers will cover the following topics -
Tony Holsgrove, Dunedin Canmore Group, The RSL experience
Peter Docherty, Docherty Consulting Limited, Engaging with Owner Occupiers
Susan McDonald, HBJ Gateley Wareing, The legal tools available
Sheana Campbell, HBJ Gateley Wareing, Recovery of Owners’ Contributions
A question and answer session will follow.
Commenting on the seminar, Susan McDonald, a senior associate in the Social Housing and Regeneration Team of HBJ Gateley Wareing, said: "Focusing on the hot topic of dealing with the regeneration, refurbishment and repair of mixed tenure stock, this seminar is sure to create considerable interest.
"Bringing together experts in the field this seminar will not just look at the theory, but provide practical case studies, giving those attending some real life situations and how the challenges arising from these were addressed."
The HBJ Gateley Wareing seminar will take place at Exchange Tower, 19 Canning Street, Edinburgh, EH3 8EH
Time: Registration from 9.30 – 10.00 am to finish around 12.30 pm followed by buffet lunch. To register for the seminar go to: www.hbjgateleywareing.com/news-and-events/events/
