Hundreds of local households have been signing up for greener, lower-carbon homes, with the help of Clackmannanshire's Home Insulation Scheme, following on from the successful bid by the Council for home insulation funding from the Government.
Since the scheme came into operation last November, over 7000 homes in Alva, Clackmannan, Dollar, Sauchie and Tullibody have been visited by doorstep energy assessors, offering energy saving advice and encouraging residents to sign up for insulation measures.
Those residents who have participated in the scheme have been provided with personalised energy saving advice and greener home energy reports. Many of these households have also now been referred for free or discounted cavity wall or loft insulation.
Visiting residents who have benefited from the scheme, the Council's Portfolio Holder for Sustainability, Councillor Eddie Carrick said: "This initiative is helping local people to reduce their fuel bills and to contribute positively towards reducing carbon emissions and improving the environment.
"With the recent big freeze we are all reminded how important it is to have insulation installed and to keep our homes' warm. This scheme actually helps residents make their homes warmer and at the same time reduces their fuel bills.
"This project is helping people who suffer from fuel poverty and it's associated health problems by providing expert advice and assistance to those most in need.
"Assessors are still contacting householders where the scheme is currently operating and I would encourage everyone to take advantage and see how they could benefit."
The Home Insulation Scheme is funded by the Scottish Government and is aimed at reducing fuel poverty and tackling climate change.
The Home insulation Scheme will come to an end on February 28th 2011, therefore it is important that anyone who wishes to benefit from this makes contact with the Energy Saving Scotland advice centre on 0800 512 012 or alternatively Clackmannanshire's Home Energy Strategy Officer on 01259 450000, prior to this cut off date.
