North Lanarkshire Council has chosen Lovell to carry out a £2 million refurbishment programme at a Motherwell town centre tower block.
The scheme will transform the 18-storey Brandon Court – which is located above the Brandon Shopping Centre – with external improvements including a new rainscreen overcladding system and steel structure pitched roof, creating a warmer, better insulated building.
In addition, the Lovell team will fit new windows at 37 flats and carry out other work including the installation of a secure entry system, the provision of new roof and ground-floor external lighting and the redecoration of communal areas inside the tower block.
Work on the year-long improvement programme will start in March. This is the eighth tower block that Lovell has modernised as part of North Lanarkshire’s Council housing modernisation programme.
The project team will work very closely with residents, who are staying in their homes during the improvement programme, to ensure that the work goes smoothly. Lovell will also liaise with other local stakeholders – including shop owners at the Brandon Shopping Centre – as part of the company’s commitment always to work with care and consideration for local communities.
Councillor Barry McCulloch, Convener of Housing and Social Work Services said: “The work at Brandon Court is another example of North Lanarkshire Council’s commitment to improving and modernising our housing stock. It will improve the fabric of the building and, most importantly, create warmer homes and a safer, more pleasant environment for the residents.
“Lovell is carrying out a first-class job on a very challenging site and we are delighted with the success of this partnership project.”
“This scheme will deliver major improvements for residents at Brandon Court,” commented Lovell regional director Alan Taylor. “As a company, we have extensive expertise in high-rise refurbishment projects and are delighted to be continuing our partnership with North Lanarkshire Council to upgrade Brandon Court, creating warmer, more energy-efficient homes.”
