HBJ Gateley Wareing Gives Helping Hand To Low Income Households

The staff of leading national law firm, HBJ Gateley Wareing, have donated household goods to charities in Edinburgh and Glasgow to assist low income households with everyday items.

The firm has offices in Edinburgh and Glasgow and activities such as this form a key part of its robust corporate social responsibility programme which includes a number of fundraising initiatives, environmental and community involvement projects, held throughout the year.

In Edinburgh the firm is donating household goods such as furniture and white goods to Castle Rock Edinvar Housing Association and their new Midlothian Advice and Resource Centre (MARC2), supporting low income households starting new tenancies.

MARC2 is a recently opened store in Craigmillar selling recycled furniture and furnishings at a low cost to assist low income families in making their house a home. They rely on donations of household items from the public to allow them to keep the shop running.

Castle Rock Edinvar Housing Association is a Registered Social Landlord with a large number of properties, and recognise that setting up a new home on a low or fixed income can be a struggle for many people. This can lead some people towards unaffordable credit choices to make their purchases, resulting in future repayment problems or ending up living in an unfurnished home.

In Glasgow the firm has collected household goods to Starter Packs Glasgow, a charity that helps homeless people set up new homes in Glasgow.

Starter Packs Glasgow is committed to helping people who are or who have been homeless to set up new homes with basic household items.

Susan McDonald, Senior Associate at HBJ Gateley Wareing said: “This is an amazing effort by our teams in Edinburgh and Glasgow and it is great to know that these basic household items will prove of such use to those looking to get the best possible start in their new home.

“Many of us take having basic household items such as furniture, cutlery, cups and bed linen for granted, but for the people we have helped through this initiative our donations are vitally needed.”
