Scottish Building Federation Elects New President

Robbie Cooke, Director at Alloa-based construction firm Marshall Construction Limited, has been elected President of the Scottish Building Federation, the leading employers’ federation for the Scottish construction industry.

Robbie, who for the past year has served as the Federation’s Senior Vice President, takes over the role of President from Jamie Pert of Pert-Bruce Construction, who was elected to the position in March last year. Robbie takes immediate responsibility for chairing the Federation’s management committee, comprising its office bearers.

Jamie Pert will retain a seat on the Federation’s management committee in his capacity as immediate past president.

Robbie Cooke originally joined Marshall Construction in 1993 after serving 20 years in the Royal Navy. He was initially appointed as the company’s safety officer, adding HR and quality to his remit following successful completion of a diploma with the National Examination Board in Occupational Health and Safety (NEBOSH).

Robbie subsequently undertook a Masters degree in business administration with the Open University. Upon completion of the course in 2002, Robbie was appointed Director at Marshall Construction, a position he has held ever since. Robbie’s involvement with the Scottish Building Federation dates back to 1995.

Scottish Building Federation Chief Executive Michael Levack said: “I would like to congratulate Robbie on his election as President. Over the years, he has made a major contribution to the ongoing success of the Federation. As such, I think he is a worthy successor to Jamie, who I would also like to thank for all of his hard work over the past year.

“Politically, we are entering quite a long period of uncertainty as the Scottish election campaign gets into full swing. The Federation will be keen to play an important part in shaping the agenda of the next Scottish Government to ensure the crucial contribution of the construction sector to the Scottish economy is properly recognised. I feel sure Robbie will play a key role in helping to make that happen.”

Robbie Cooke commented: “I am genuinely delighted to have been elected President of the Scottish Building Federation. This is an organisation I have been happy to be actively involved with throughout my career in the construction industry – a period of more than 15 years.

“I am only too aware of the challenges our industry continues to face. I will work hard over the coming year to make sure the people who matter fully understand those challenges – but also the huge contribution our industry continues to make to Scotland’s economy, whether in terms of jobs, output or apprenticeships.”
