£18m Fife Leisure Project Secured

Graham Construction have secured a major building project in Fife with their appointment as the main contractor for a brand new state-of-the-art sports and leisure centre for Glenrothes.

The £18m project for client Fife Council due to commence in late May is designed to replace the Fife Institute for Physical and Recreational Education (FIPRE).

Grant Ward, head of leisure and cultural services, said: “I’m delighted to announce the appointment of Graham Construction as the main contractor for this exciting new project and look forward to working with them in the coming months. The company has a significant amount of experience in delivering this kind of project and they will be a key partner in helping to deliver a flagship sports and leisure centre for Glenrothes and beyond.”

Neil McFarlane, regional director at Graham Construction, said: “The new sports and leisure facility will provide the people of Fife with an important and stunning civic amenity and will play a key role in the transformation of Glenrothes.

“Working closely with Fife Council and project architects B3 and Cre8, we are relishing the opportunity of being part of the team creating such an iconic building for Glenrothes, which will inspire generations of people from Fife to become involved in sport. We have significant experience of building leisure facilities and as this is a major project in Fife, it is one we are very much looking forward to delivering. We are delighted to have been awarded this prestigious contract by Fife Council.”

The work will include the construction of a 25m x 17m eight lane competition swimming pool with a gallery for 250 spectators, a 20m x 10m training pool with underwater movable floor, a 11m x 5m teaching/remedial pool and a modern wet-side change area with adjoining health suite. Dry-side facilities will include a gym with 80 stations, strength and conditioning studio, purpose built aerobics studio, regional standard eight badminton court sports hall and two squash courts. Outdoor facilities will include an 11 a side synthetic pitch, three 5 a side 3G synthetic pitches, a 7 a side 3G synthetic pitch and an athletics track upgrade.

Work will be carried out on a phased approach so that there is as little service disruption as possible with the completed new centre due to open in April 2013.
