Councillors were concerned at the impact that a development of 500 housing units would have on the local East Calder community.
The Council Executive instructed officers to revisit the proposals with developers.
Council Leader Peter Johnston commented: "There has been a significant level of consultation with the local community on these proposals. There are clearly strong local concerns about the impact of the proposals on the local community.

"The Council Executive was clearly persuaded by the strength of local opinion and has decided that the proposed development framework be rejected and consideration be now given to producing a new framework with a housing density of no more that 12 houses per hectare."
A development framework is not a planning application and does not represent the end of consultation with the local community and other interested parties. It provides a starting point for moving discussion forward and to assist in the planning application process.
