Forehill residents have been invited to participate in South Ayrshire Council's consultation on proposals to build 19 new affordable houses and an integrated children's residential unit.
Intended to address a lack of affordable homes to rent and long waiting lists, if the proposals are accepted it would mean an overall investment of £2 million in new affordable housing in the area, including more than £500,000 from the Scottish Government.
The proposed new purpose-built residential unit will accommodate up to six young people who can no longer stay at home, ensuring some of the most vulnerable young people in South Ayrshire's communities are given the support and security they need.
The proposed location for the children's residential unit is Caledonia Road, which is the selected site for eight proposed affordable family homes for rent.
Six houses are also planned in Glencairn Park with a further five proposed at Gavin Hamilton Court.
To scope out the community's views, the Council has held three drop-in consultation events, with several more to follow, and a survey is currently in circulation.
Portfolio Holder for Housing, Councillor Douglas Campbell, said: "We need to take action to increase the number of affordable homes for rent in this area and the proposed development would go some way to helping achieve this and delivering quality accommodation for the local community."
Portfolio Holder for Social Services, Councillor Nan McFarlane, added: "Quality accommodation that is fit for purpose is nothing more than our young people in care deserve and the proposed development would offer an ideal location that allows them to be a real part of the community. I would urge anyone with concerns or questions to come along to our drop-in sessions to ensure they have all the information they need about what's being proposed."
