Airport Business Park Extension Proposed

Developers behind a major international business park adjoining Aberdeen Airport have confirmed proposals for a future extension to the site, worth in excess of £30million.

ABZ Business Park, covering more than 54 acres of land at Dyce Drive, Aberdeen on the southern perimeter of the city’s international airport, was unveiled in late August by established family business Ribnort.

Preparatory work on the site, which has already attracted interest from businesses across Scotland and the UK, is already underway including the establishment of services and key infrastructure including road connections.

A further portion of land, covering 20 acres to the south of Wellheads Drive – immediately opposite the existing ABZ site – is now being proposed for development, with a pre-planning application notification having been lodged with Aberdeen City Council.

Outline proposals for ABZ phase two, which is intended to include land zoned for class 4, 5 and 6 use – focussed on workshop, warehouse and open-storage facilities – will be lodged following community consultation.

Investment in phase one of ABZ is expected in the region of £100m for the construction element alone – with the potential for up to 2,000 jobs to be created within the completed and fully-occupied site. Phase two could see up to £30million invested on construction.

George Stevenson, founding director of Ribnort, said: "Following the strong reception we have had for phase one of ABZ, securing early outline planning permission for this adjacent site, which we own, is the natural next step.

“Commercial development land is in desperately short supply across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire – realising additional land of this kind for development would bring additional investment and jobs absolutely vital to the local economy.

“We look forward to submitting formal plans for the site, which is already zoned in the current local plan, and taking these forward following community consultation.”

In addition to working in cooperation with Aberdeen Airport on the ABZ proposals, Ribnort Ltd is supported by property and building consultants FG Burnett, commercial property consultants Ryden, architects Halliday Fraser Munro and engineers WA Fairhurst & Partners.
