A new partnership between Stirling Council and the National Housing Trust is set to make more homes available to rent in Stirling.
The mid-market rental properties will be managed and allocated by Stirling Council’s Housing Service on Short Assured Tenancies, which means they will be let initially for a 6-month period and thereafter on a month-to-month basis to suit people needing to rent for up to a 5-year period.
The properties, which are owned by the National Housing Trust, are more expensive than normal Council rents but generally less expensive than the private rented sector and are aimed at people who can afford to pay a higher rent and who can manage independent living without the need for additional support.
The first sixteen flats will soon be available for rent in Riverside. These will be a mix of one and two bedroomed flats furnished with white goods, carpets and curtains throughout. With rents ranging from £80 to £102 per week.
Stirling Council’s Housing Portfolio Holder Councillor Alasdair MacPherson, said: "I am pleased that Stirling Council is part of this new housing initiative. Mid-market rental is available in some of Scotland's larger cities and due to the demand on Stirling Council's waiting list, I hope that this initiative gives people looking for affordable rented properties in the Stirling area an alternative housing option to consider which will help reduce pressure on our waiting list."
After the 5-year period Trust will sell the flats and the sitting tenant will be given the option to either buy the property or move out.
More information on this new initiative is available from local offices and the Council’s Allocations Team. The Allocations Team can be contacted on 01786 442871.
