Council Building On Successful Foundations

Midlothian Council has committed £164million to building new homes in Midlothian since 2006 and the next step in our new-build programme is due to be completed later this year.

The council is set to deliver a further 180 new homes by summer 2012.

These are the final homes in the £108 million first phase of our new build programme.

Once these are finished the council will have delivered 864 new homes for Midlothian families since 2006.

These include developments in Dalkeith, Bonnyrigg, Newtongrange, Gorebridge, Mayfield, Lasswade, Loanhead, and Penicuik. This year will see the Council provide 79 new homes in Salters Road, Dalkeith, 53 new homes in Hopefield Bonnyrigg and 48 new homes at New Park Gardens, Gorebridge.

A £56 million second phase of the new-build programme is also set to start in 2012, bringing the council closer to meeting its pledge of delivering up to 1500 new homes for the people of Midlothian. Plans are underway to start work on this phase, with 31 new homes and 32 extra care homes in Penicuik.

Councillor Jim Muirhead, Midlothian Council Cabinet Member for housing and community safety said: "Providing homes for families is one of Midlothian Council’s top priorities. A further 180 homes being completed this year will make a real difference to the lives of people in Midlothian.

"This brings a very successful end to the £108 million first phase of our new build programme. 2012 is also very important as it sees the start of the £56 million second phase, demonstrating our ongoing commitment to providing affordable homes for rent in Midlothian."
