Robertson Completes £3m Community Hall In Aberdeen

Construction News Image
Construction work has finished on a £3million building at Camphill School in Bieldside in Aberdeen.

The Phoenix Hall, built by the infrastructure, support services and construction group Robertson, forms an integral part of the international Camphill Community, an organisation specialising in the development and care of children and young people with learning difficulties.

The project which has taken over a year to complete is built using a primary glulam structure with a secondary timber frame. Highly bespoke timber detailing, timber roof shingles and smooth render highlight the unusual shapes of the building. By using these materials, the building complements the natural surroundings and the rest of the Camphill campus buildings.

The building will provide a focal point for the whole campus and houses an auditorium with a stage and changing facilities as well as a library, small cafe and a range of offices and activity rooms.

The semi-circular plan of the building also creates a small external amphitheatre, which will be used for performances or as a seating area when the weather is suitable.

Regional Managing Director for Robertson, Sean O’Callaghan, said: "Robertson is proud to have completed work on such an inspirational design project. As challenging as it was I would like to thank all those involved for their hard work in completing this unique project. The Phoenix Hall can now be enjoyed by staff and students for generations to come."

The values and objectives of the Camphill Community are based on the educational, social and philosophical principles pioneered by Rudolf Steiner and they have an in-house team of architects who develop environments which are both nurturing and spiritual and the Phoenix Hall is an excellent example of their work.
