Improvements Planned For Dundee Homes

Almost £4m of improvement works to council houses across Dundee could be set to get underway.

Among a raft of works which will help to bring the city's housing stock up to Scottish Housing Quality Standard by 2015 is the installation of new kitchens and bathrooms in 348 flats at the Whorterbank and Landsdowne/Pitalpin multi storey developments.

Jimmy Black, convener of Dundee City Council's housing committee said: "These works will not only help us to improve the quality of life of hundreds of our tenants across the city it will also mean work for local companies.

"Of the 14 contracts we will have in front of us on Monday night, five could be going to the council's environment department construction services division, with the remainder to the council's partner, McGill Electrical.

"This type of partnership agreement is already proving its worth with savings being made on the way the council tenders for work on the housing stock."

Work including replacement roofs, heating installation and warden call systems is planned for properties in a number of communities including Hilltown, St Marys, Kirkton, Logie, Fintry and Longhaugh.

Dundee City Council's housing committee, which meets on Monday (March 12), will be asked to approve a total of £3.95m worth of contracts, including £1.78m for the work at Whorterbank and Landsdowne/Pitalpin.
