Over £78 million is expected to be invested in infrastructure across Aberdeenshire in 2012/13.
A report to Policy & Resources Committee advises that the council is on track to deliver the commitments in the capital plan which details all major building and refurbishment programmes across the council’s estate.
The programme for the year includes a range of high profile new build projects due to be completed including a childrens' homes at Inverurie, care home at Stonehaven and a pool and community sports centre in Fraserburgh. There will be continued investment in parks, roads, bridges, industrial portfolio, household waste recycling centres and libraries.
The plan also includes significant development of the school estate including the recently commenced Mearns Academy whilst Ellon Academy is on track to start early 2013. The future programme includes Alford Academy and Primary Complex with further primary replacements at Drumoak, Kinellar, and Markethill, Turriff with additional schools planned for Uryside, Inverurie and Kintore. There will be continued enhancements to the schools across Aberdeenshire including an extension and refurbishment to Kemnay Academy. A new care home is also being designed for Inverurie.
Council Leader, Cllr Jim Gifford said: "This is a very comprehensive plan, which has been developed based on the needs and desires of local communities. This is the start of a significant programme of investment in our estate which will take place over the next few years."
Councillors will consider the Capital Plan update report at a meeting of Policy & Resources Committee on 20th September at Woodhill House, Aberdeen.
