Wind Turbine Plans Being Considered

Construction News Image
Plans to install two wind turbines at St Fergus Moss in Aberdeenshire look set to be rejected by planners.

The application from Greenspan Electric is being considered by members of the Buchan are committee.

The committee will have to decide whether to permit the construction and installation of the 100m high turbines.

The council has received a total of 17 representations regarding the application, amounting to 15 in favour and just two against.

In a report, planning officer David MacLennan has stated the key planning issues which have to be assessed when the installation of wind turbines is being considered.

Points of concern include landscape and visual impact, cumulative impact, amenity, and impacts on communication installations, radar or air traffic control systems.

Mr MacLennan said: "The service is concerned about whether the landscape here can accommodate two more large scale turbines of this height.

"The turbines are higher than the majority of others approved within the wider area and there has been such pressure for turbines in this locality that the turbines which have been consented already will significantly dominate the landscape to the detriment of its character and appearance.

"The approval of further turbines will clutter the landscape with this type of development and given their size the effects will be visible from significant distance," he added.
