Angus Council Announces Sheltered Housing Improvements

Twenty flats are set to benefit from a programme of improvements to Angus Council’s sheltered housing stock across the country.

The dwellings at the sheltered housing scheme in Ferryden, Montrose are to be modernised as part of the project.

The £793,000 improvement was agreed at a meeting of Neighbourhood Services last week.

The work being undertaken will include installing new kitchens, level access showers and replacement bathrooms and wash hand basins.

Economic and ecological improvements are also being undertaken, with renewed insulation, heating, doors and floor covering being part of the modernisation.

Six of the existing flats will be converted and modernised into three new one-bedroomed flats with increased space.

The improvements will see external and internal developments undertaken, including upgrading the warden call system, replacing the fire alarm system, extending the laundry and forming a sun room.

Work is expected to begin in January or February 2013 and is due to be completed in January 2014.

Neighbourhood Services convener Councillor Donald Morrison, said: "The modernisation at Ferryden will greatly enhance the quality of accommodation for our tenants and I'm delighted that we are able to take forward this project.

"With each such scheme we have modernised, we've gained valuable experience which we'll be bringing to bear on this latest project. We will be following the latest building practices and standards to ensure well insulated, quality homes for our tenants."
