Perth & Kinross Council has been commended for its design of the Affordable Housing Scheme in Rorrie Terrace, Methven.
The Dundee Institute of Architects (DIA) awarded the project in the category of best residential development.
The design includes energy efficiency that exceeds standard building regulations by 20%.
The DIA visited the scheme, spoke with residents and reported receiving very positive feedback.
Perth & Kinross Council’s Housing & Health Convener Councillor Dave Doogan said: "We are delighted to receive this commendation, and especially to hear of the positive responses from our residents. Our aim was to design and deliver homes that suit modern day living and in which families enjoy living. We will look at how elements of this project can be used to benefit future developments."
Fraser Middleton, DIA President, commented: "The judges felt that this development revealed a bold architectural approach, unusual in social housing which provided a refreshing, innovative solution on a challenging site and for a finite budget. The effort taken to generate a pleasant, secure living environment whilst integrating admirable sustainable building practice shone through.
"Residents very clearly expressed satisfaction in their new environment during the judges' visit. This development proves that good architecture can enhance the lifestyle of residents and promote both individual and community well-being. The Council and its architectural team have to be congratulated on this approach and hopefully it will provide a benchmark that can be built upon and a legacy for others to follow."
