Utility diversion works have begun as part of the £24.75m Scheme, with a focus on Douglas Row and Huntly Street.
Douglas Row will be shut to vehicles from Monday 7 January for at least a week for essential gas works.
The Council says there will be no through road to Bank Street, while alternative parking will be available on Glebe Street and Friars Street.
It has advised residents to park along Friar’s Street and on Glebe Street between Douglas Row and Friar’s Street.

Pay and Display parking along Friar’s Street will be ceased for the duration of the works, while parking will not be available on Douglas Row.
Utility replacement works will be underway in sections of Huntly Street from 7 January until the end of April.
Huntly Street will be closed to vehicles between Greig Street and Celt Street from 7- 22 January, although pedestrians will have access at all times.
There will be no through route from Wells Street to Ness Bridge, and the rest of Huntly Street will be open to all vehicles. Pedestrians will have access at all times.
Pay and Display parking will also cease along Huntly Street, with parking restricted to permit holders only.
Permit holders will be able to park along any section of Huntly Street that is open; a measure approved by traffic wardens.
Contractors Coffey Construction will facilitate the collection of refuse during the works.
The Council has asked residents to put out bins for collection in the usual place the night before normal collection day.
Coffey personnel will move the bins to a location that can be accessed by the refuse collection vehicle, and will ensure they are returned to their correct location.
