Glasgow City Council has revealed its plans for investment over the next two years, including funding for regeneration and infrastructure projects.

£80m of capital investment will go towards improving the city's primary school estate.

£11m is to be spent on child care, including the building of two new care homes.

An additional £16m will be put towards improving and repairing city roads.

Proposals also include multi-million pound funding for the regeneration of Sighthill.

City Treasurer Cllr Paul Rooney said: "Our budgets are under intense pressure; but we can't afford to think small.

"This is a time to focus on our priorities and invest in our people - in education, in communities and in infrastructure.

"We are able to do that because of our effective and prudent stewardship of this council in recent years.

"We have had to be innovative and we have had to be bold; but the difficult decisions we took yesterday are paying dividends today as we strive to protect frontline services."

£250m is being allocated for the rebuilding or refurbishment of every primary school in the city in the five years from 2013 to 2018.

Cllr Rooney said: "We are determined that Glasgow's children will be educated in buildings that are fit for purpose - and that provide an environment in which they can achieve their potential.

"This investment will not only benefit children in every community across the city, but also provide a significant boost to the local economy."
