Atrium Homes Declines East Ayrshire Contract

Atrium Homes has announced it has declined a contract with East Ayrshire Council to work on town centre developments as part of the Strategic Local Programme 2012-15.

The move follows a decision by the board at Atrium that the Council’s projects could not be delivered within cost parameters acceptable to the firm.

East Ayrshire Council had recently announced that the total Scottish government funding for new build housing in East Ayrshire now sits at £4.709m.


This allows the Council to progress with development plans for sites in Kilmarnock, Cumnock, Stewarton, Galston, Mauchline and Newmilns.

The developments are part of the strategic vision for the promotion of town centre living.

But Atrium Homes has revealed its Board declined the Council’s offer.

It said that taking on the contract would mean the firm would struggle to meet its own strategic objectives.

Ken Stewart, chairman of Atrium Homes, said: "The Board assessed the projects in the context of our Business Plan and we could not make a financial argument in favour of us progressing them. At a strategic level, Board considered that it could determine no obvious advantages to Atrium Homes which would be achieved by progressing the projects."
