MP Tours GHA Sheltered Housing Complex

MP Willie Bain visited a GHA sheltered housing complex to hear how the UK Government’s welfare benefit changes and rising energy costs are impacting on older people.

The MP joined GHA Chair Gordon Sloan at the Joppa Street site in Carntyne to meet with the residents.

Tenants, aged from 67 to 94, met with the Labour MP for Glasgow North East to discuss key issues for pensioners.

The group discussed the UK Government’s welfare benefit reform and energy company price rises.

He was also given a tour of the complex and shown the wide range of exercise and art activities on offer to residents.

The MP said: "It was great to meet with residents in GHA’s excellent sheltered housing complex at Joppa Street. The facilities are an asset to this area of Carntyne and I was fortunate enough to experience the real sense of community amongst the residents living there during my visit.

"Residents discussed a range of concerns, from electricity and gas costs to welfare issues. The views expressed are very important in terms of informing what I say when speaking up on behalf of my constituents in Parliament."

Any GHA tenant who is worried about the welfare benefit changes should call GHA’s special helpline on 0800 597 3777.

Tenants who are concerned about rising fuel bills can make an appointment with a GHA fuel advisor by calling 0800 479 7979.
