The approval came as members of Fife Council’s Executive Committee received an update on the progress of the bridge strengthening programme at their meeting last week.
Developments over the past year mean the ten tonne weight limit at William Street, Dunfermline will now be removed.
A £0.9m project to replace the weak culvert has now been completed, while the £0.3m project to strengthen the bridge at Cabbagehall is nearly finished. The latter development will lead to the removal of the road width restriction.

The Executive Committee has now approved the £6.7m Fife Bridgeworks Consolidated Programme.
The project will include strengthening and improvement works to a further 13 structures across Fife up to 2019.
Fife Council says the overall backlog on the programme amounts to £19.7m, and notes that additional finance will be required to complete it.
At the meeting, the Committee also agreed that in future, the Bridgeworks Programme would be reviewed in the context of the overall Roads Maintenance Programme.
