It now wants to hear from locals on the council's vision for the continued growth and regeneration of the region.
The South Lanarkshire Local Development Plan is available to view from today and will run for six weeks, until Friday 28 June.
The new plan will be the successor to the first Local Plan, which was carried out in 2009 and will shape the councils decisions on development proposals.
Proposals include new housing sites, as well as boundary changes to settlements and town centres, being mapped out, while the areas of search for wind farms have been reduced.
Consideration has also been given to the land use issues arising from the impact of climate change.
The plan also aims to ensure developments are:
- sustainably located
- maximising the use of vacant and derelict land
- utilising renewable energy resources
- as carbon neutral as possible
- avoiding areas of flood risk
