East Dunbartonshire Council has said the Bishopbriggs Relief Road is one step near to being completed as work starts on Phase 3 of the project.
Machinery is now moving onto the site so works can progress on the five-phase scheme.
Taylor Wimpey West Scotland is building this section of the road which will extend from Auchinairn Road to Wester Cleddens Road. It will also include the construction of a roundabout at Wester Cleddens Road.
The build coincides with the construction of 196 homes to the east of Miller Drive and Auchinairn Road and is covered by a legal agreement as part of their planning permission.
The first two phases of the relief road, which are situated within Glasgow, have now been completed and link drivers to the Robroyston roundabout and onto the M80.
Councillor Alan Moir, Convener of the Council's Development & Regeneration Committee, said: "This is a key step towards improving links to and from Bishopbriggs and the important business location of Westerhill.
"The Bishopbriggs Relief Road plays a key role in both our Local Transport Strategy and our Economic Development Strategy so I'm delighted to see Taylor Wimpey on site delivering this next section of road.
"The people of Bishopbriggs have waited a long time for the Relief Road and once it is completed they will see less traffic going through the town centre, reducing congestion and improving air quality."
Willie Burns, Managing Director for Taylor Wimpey West Scotland, added: "Our programme to deliver this phase of the Relief Road will take around 12 months, and we know that it will make a huge difference to the local community in reducing congestion and journey times."
