New Sports Facilities For East Lothian

East Lothian Council has said Dunbar, North Berwick and Prestonpans are to gain new sports facilities.

The local authority is completing the extension of 3G pitch provision across the remaining three clusters within the county.

The Council, in partnership with sportscotland, previously delivered 3G pitches in the clusters of Musselburgh, Tranent, and Haddington. All of these cluster communities are receiving the benefit of the new facilities.

The new 3G pitches in Dunbar, North Berwick, and Prestonpans are being funded through East Lothian Council and sportscotland Sports Lottery funding. The Scottish Football Partnership, through its support to local clubs, is also a key delivery partner for the new 3G pitches.

All three funding sources are key to delivering high-quality facilities that make a significant contribution to the quality and capacity of pitch provision within the county.

Tim Day, Cabinet spokesperson for Community Wellbeing, said: "I am delighted that East Lothian will be served across all of its clusters with a 3G pitch. These facilities really do make a difference to the sporting experiences for all participants. I would like to thank sportscotland for again supporting the council with the delivery of the 3G pitches and the Scottish Football Partnership for supporting local clubs and contributing to the overall delivery of the project."

Stewart Harris, Chief Executive of sportscotland, added: "A partnership approach is critical to the success of a project like this and sportscotland’s funding contribution of £600,000 will help to deliver another three first-class synthetic grass pitches for East Lothian which will be suitable for both rugby and football.

"sportscotland is committed to investing in quality facilities as part of its drive towards developing a world-class sporting system at all levels and the new 3G pitches will help to increase the number of people involved in sport and physical activity throughout the area."

The 3G pitches are part of the council's legacy for London 2012 and Glasgow 2014.
