Major Investment For Clyde Valley Road

Construction News Image
Major roadworks have started along the A72 - Clyde Valley Road.

The £1m investment will be carried out in four phases in order to minimise disruption.

The first phase started on Monday 9 September and will last until 26 September.

The first phase will take place between Dobbies Garden Centre and the south end of Rosebank, meaning the A72 will be closed between these locations until Friday 13 September.

Work will only take place during daylight hours.

The second phase will require the A72 to be closed between the south end of Rosebank to the access point of the Popinjay Hotel. This is an overnight closure only and will take place from approximately 8pm on Friday (13 September) until 5am on Saturday 14 September. The overnight working is to try and minimise disruption to local businesses.

Phase three will take place from Monday 16 until Friday 20 September which will see the A72 closed between the Popinjay Hotel and Dalserf Lodge. Again, this work will only take place during daylight hours.

The final phase will see the road close between Dalserf Lodge and Garrion Bridge and will take place from Monday 23 until Thursday 26 September.

During this phase daylight working practices will also be in operation.

Councillor Chris Thompson, chair of the Council's Enterprise Services Committee, said: "We appreciate these works will have a significant impact on travelling times and cause disruption to many road users.

"I can only apologise for that, but it is important to point out that the poor condition of the road means these works are an absolute necessity.

"On such a busy route no solution is without disruption, but we are confident the scheme we have come up with is the quickest and most efficient.

"I would ask that people take note of the various phases of the scheme and try to avoid the area if at all possible during the works."

The main diversion route will be along the A71 through Overtown to Waterloo Roundabout, A721 to Bogside, A73 through Carluke to Lanark and the A72 Clydeside to the end of the closure, while access to Dobbies Garden Centre will be maintained at all times from the Lanark side.
