New Homes For North Lanarkshire

Construction News Image
A number of new council homes are planned for towns across North Lanarkshire as part of the council's £150m Building for the Future programme.

A total of 255 new properties have been proposed for the latest phase of the programme to create 1,000 new homes across the authority area by 2020.

Airdrie, Chapelhall, Coatbridge, Cumbernauld, Harthill, Motherwell, New Stevenston and Wishaw will all benefit in the next round of plans up until 2017/18, with many being built on former school sites.

Councillors approved the plans subject to further site investigation, feasibility studies and planning consultation.

Elaine McHugh, Head of Housing Services said: "This is another exciting development in our new build programme.

"The majority of the developments are on brownfield sites, often on former school sites and at the heart of our communities.

"Our programme aims to meet particular needs within local communities and improve the range of properties within our housing stock."

From an initial programme of 125 properties, the programme has now expanded to a target of 1,000 units by 2020. All of the projects built to date have received a contribution from the Scottish Government towards the development costs.

In addition to the 200 houses already completed across eight sites, work is either underway or due to begin on a further 115 units on sites across North Lanarkshire.
