Approval Given For Lewis Wind Farm

Comhairle nan Eilean Siar has approved plans for a 14-turbine wind farm in the Western Isles.

The development will be located on a site 10 miles from Stornoway on Lewis, the BBC has reported.

It is understood 2020 Renewables is behind the £70m scheme and plans to build on common grazing land at North Tolsta.

This is the latest wind farm development approved by the local authority.

Last week, Councillors from Comhairle nan Eilean Siar's Environment Committee approved plans for two wind turbines to be constructed in North Uist, despite opposition from the Ministry of Defence (MoD).

The MoD argued that the turbines would have an "unacceptable" impact on radars on the islands.
