Final Phase For A77 Improvement Scheme

The final phase of the £10.6m Symington and Bogend Toll scheme will begin on 20 January 2014, Transport Scotland has said.

R J McLeod, who is carrying out the project on behalf of Transport Scotland, will undertake works to improves access for road users. The works will include widening the existing junctions, closing central reservations and connecting the flyover bridges.

The main scheme itself will also provide safer access to the A77 by removing the need for right hand turns across the busy stretch of road.


As a result of the work, it will be necessary to sequentially close a single lane at a time of the southbound, then northbound, A77 carriageways.

It is thought the works will last for approximately eight weeks, while local access will be maintained throughout this period.

Ruairidh Campbell, Project Manager at Transport Scotland, said: "These works mark the start of the final phase of this important scheme to improve safety on the A77 by replacing right hand turns with flyover junctions.

"We have planned these lane closures carefully to minimise the impact on the local community and travelling public but some delays are inevitable.

"We advise motorists to plan their journeys in advance using all the available journey planning tools. We thank drivers for their patience during this period."
