Resurfacing Works for A9 Junction

Resurfacing works are set to commence on the A9 Lynwilg Junction, south of Aviemore, BEAR Scotland has said.

Costing £550,000, the 1.5km section will be resurfaced in order to restore structural integrity and improve the quality of the surface for road users.

Work on the project will begin on Monday 17 February and are scheduled for completion by 14 March 2014. Several traffic management options have been considered to reduce disruption to traffic, and as a result, the carriageway will be reduced to one lane throughout the four-week programme, between the hours of 7am and 7pm. Temporary traffic signal controls will be in place, as well as a 10mph convoy system.

Outwith working hours, traffic management arrangements will vary according to progress of the works, although one lane will remain open as a minimum. A speed restriction of 30mph will also be in place outside of working hours as road users will be on a temporary road surface.

Commenting on the works, Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland's North West Unit Representative said: "This section of the A9 is in particularly poor condition and extensive maintenance work to the carriageway is necessary at this time. The planned works will greatly improve the condition of this road and improve safety for road users."

Breedon Aggregates have been contracted to undertake the works which will be supervised by BEAR Scotland.
