Ground Investigation Works At Glen Gloy

Important ground investigation works are due to begin at the A82 at Glen Gloy.

The project will start on Monday (3 February), and last for approximately five weeks.

The works are required following the effects of a previous landslide which washed away a section of the steep river bank that supports that A82, just north of Glen Gloy.

A 300m-section of the road is due to be realigned in the future, but detailed ground investigation works are needed before the design can be completed. A majority of the works, involving sinking a number of boreholes, and digging trial pits, will be on land beside the road but there will also be some on the existing carriageway.

Commenting on the works, Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland's North West Unit Representative said: "This section of the A82 is a particularly important route and the ground investigation works will allow us to finalise the design for the new road. The end result will see a safer and improved section of trunk road through this very constrained narrow valley.

"The ground investigation works should not cause significant delays to motorists but we do encourage the public to look at the Traffic Scotland website for up-to-date travel information and leave some extra time for their journey where they can."
