Work To Update TAYplan Blueprint

Work to update a blueprint that will shape the future of land use in Dundee is expected to begin shortly.

The TAYplan Strategic Development Plan is set to be updated since it was first approved by officials two years ago and will take into account environmental and other changes in the area.

The exercise is expected to begin on 15 April and a number of groups are expected to help consult on the programme including politicians, communities, businesses and young people.

In a statement, the local authority said the Approved Strategic Development Plan outlines the spatial development strategy and vision for Dundee City, Perth & Kinross, North Fife and Angus up to the year 2032 and focuses on land use and development issues.

With this in mind, a Main Issues Report has been established and eight areas of change and options over the next 20 years has been published. It includes:


• How to be more resilient to a changing climate

• Planning to enable people to live healthier lives

• Making the TAYplan area a place of first choice to invest

• Planning for vibrant town and city centres

• How to plan for homes for people to live in

• Planning for a low carbon economy and place

• Planning for resource security

• Planning to enhance green networks.

Commenting on the initiative, Councillor Will Dawson, Chair of the TAYplan Joint Committee, said: "This is a key stage in the review of the Approved Strategic Development Plan, and while the Main Issues Report is not itself a drat plan it does set out options, raises issues and seeks comments on these to help inform and shape the next strategic plan.

"Now that we have agreed the Main Issues Report for consultation and its associated documents, the four constituent councils will look at our recommendations, which we are sure will be relevant to them and hope that they will agree with.

"If the councils back the plan then in April everyone with an interest will be able to get involved and give us their views on what they think the key issues are and what the strategic options could be."

The TAYplan consultation is due to start on 15 April and run until the end of June 2014.
