Strachur Play Park To Reopen

Plans to reopen Strachur Play Park have been unveiled, it has been reported.

It is understood that having worked closely with a local community group, Argyll Community Housing Association (ACHA) plan to transform the play area.

ACHA have previously been involved with the park when they helped with a 'facelift' of the site a number of years ago, but due to issues in the time since that work was carried out, the play park was forced to close. Now, however, following an agreement with Strachur & District Play Park Community Group, the park could have a new lease of life.

Discussions on the revamp include the repair and upgrading of swings, as well as new exercise equipment, a climbing frame, safety matting and benches. While the new play area would be smaller than the old park, ACHA has said it will retain the adjoining ground with the aim of providing more affordable homes for the local community.

Alastair MacGregor, Chief Executive of ACHA, is quoted as saying: "We realise how important this park is to the area and we regretted it was lying empty and falling into disrepair. I want to also thank Saffron Dickinson, Lynda Nairn and Michelle Fell from the Community Group for their hard work in realising these plans.

"Once the play park is open we will make sure it is well cared for as local staff are trained in managing these facilities and will make sure all the equipment is maintained in good, safe, working order."

Work on the scheme is scheduled to begin soon, with hopes that the park can be open and operational by Easter 2014.
